Saint Louis Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Creve Coeur, Missouri, US
The monastery extends across 150 acres in West Saint Louis County, featuring a circular church with three tiers of white concrete parabolic arches.
Founded in 1955 by three monks from Ampleforth Abbey in England, the monastery achieved independence in 1973 and gained abbey status in 1989.
The monastery combines English Benedictine educational traditions with Catholic teachings through its operation of Saint Louis Priory School since 1956.
The monks maintain regular schedules of prayer five times daily, celebrate Mass in English and Latin, and instruct students in subjects from theology to mathematics.
The church building contains historical artifacts including a 14th-century Madonna sculpture and a 17th-century holy font in Della Robbia style.
