Sharon Valley Historic District, Historic industrial settlement in Sharon, Connecticut.
The Sharon Valley Historic District occupies 110 acres between two creeks and contains buildings from the 19th century. It features preserved industrial structures, three iron bridges, and a former office building with historical importance.
An iron furnace was established here in 1825 and turned an agricultural settlement into an industrial center. Production expanded later, additional facilities grew up, and the region thrived as a center of metalwork.
The architecture shows how workers lived in the 19th century, with homes in period styles standing alongside factory buildings. The way these structures are arranged tells the story of how living and working were closely connected during the industrial era.
The area is best explored on foot to see all the structures and details. Allow time for a walk between the buildings, as you will be visiting different locations spread across the space.
A limestone kiln from 1880 stands here and shows methods that went beyond just iron production. Its location alongside other factory structures reveals how different industries grew side by side.
