Beekman Park, Community park in Amenia, New York.
Beekman Park is a community park in Amenia covering about 48 acres of green space with three baseball fields and walking paths through restored wetlands and natural areas. The grounds feature open fields mixed with wooded sections, all connected by a network of trails that serve both recreation and nature.
Walter Beekman donated the land to Amenia for one dollar in 1974, making the park's creation possible. Volunteers developed it between 1983 and 1985, transforming raw land into a functioning recreational space for the community.
The baseball fields here bear the names of notable Amenia players, showing how deeply sports are woven into the community's identity and values.
The park has parking for about 75 vehicles and can be accessed from US Route 44 or by foot via Broadway and East Broadway Avenues. Coming in the morning works best if you want to find a parking spot, especially when games or local events are happening.
The southwestern corner still holds remnants of an old dam that once created a lake in this area. This structure is a physical reminder of how Hurricane Diane in 1955 reshaped the landscape, and visitors can see the natural recovery that followed.
