Sewickley Bridge, Steel continuous truss road bridge in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, US

Sewickley Bridge is a steel continuous truss structure that spans across the Ohio River with a main section in the middle and two smaller sections on either side. It carries traffic between Sewickley and Moon Township for daily use.

The current bridge opened in 1981 to replace an earlier structure from 1911 that had become unsafe after decades of use. Engineers designed the new crossing to maintain the same important connection across the river.

The decorative spires from the original 1911 bridge still stand in local parks, serving as reminders of the earlier crossing that once connected these communities.

You can drive across the bridge or walk to viewing areas on the riverbanks to see its structure up close. The best views come from the parks on either side of the river where you can observe the span from different angles.

Engineers reused the original piers from the 1911 bridge when building the new structure, but changed from the old cantilever method to a continuous truss design. This combination of preserving old foundations while using modern techniques made for an interesting engineering solution.
