Legionville, Archaeological site in Beaver County, United States.
Located along the Ohio River, this military training site encompasses fifty acres of land with remnants of structures and earthworks beneath soil layers.
The site functioned as the first United States Army training camp in 1792, established by General Anthony Wayne to prepare troops against British-allied Native Americans.
Officers who trained at Legionville included future president William Henry Harrison and explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, shaping American military leadership.
Archaeological excavations between 1991 and 1994 uncovered significant features including firepits, chimney foundations, floor sills, and preserved wagon tracks.
The training camp contained approximately 500 buildings and housed 2,000 soldiers who received specialized instruction in infantry, cavalry, and artillery operations.
