Smithville is a historic district covering 312 acres with forests, meadows, and a lake set along a creek in Eastampton. The property includes a mansion and museum building alongside workshops and structures that once housed machinery and bicycle manufacturing.

The site started as a small mill in the 1860s and developed into a manufacturing hub for quality machinery and bicycles. This industrial growth made the area an important center for craft production and equipment making.

You can see manufacturing equipment and products inside the restored buildings that show how people worked here to make machinery and bicycles. The preserved structures tell the story of skilled craft traditions that shaped this place over time.

The grounds are walkable with several paths leading through the wooded and open areas. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for wet spots, especially after rain, in certain sections of the property.

A notable feature was an experimental transport system called the Smithville-Mt. Holly Bicycle Railroad that used specially designed bicycles on metal tracks. This inventive setup was an unusual approach to moving goods between locations.
