St. James Chapel, Greek Revival chapel in Hyde Park, United States
The St. James Chapel displays a combination of Greek Revival architecture with columns and pediments reflecting classical temple design elements.
Built in 1832, the chapel gained recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993 for its architectural and historical value.
The chapel formed part of the Episcopal parish of St. James, established in 1811 by Samuel Bard who influenced its early development.
The building contains original finishing elements, including carved tracery in the interior and triple Gothic-arched stained glass windows.
Franklin D. Roosevelt received baptism in this chapel on March 20, 1882, before his future presidency of the United States.
