Engineering Hall, Administrative building at University of Illinois, Urbana, United States.
Engineering Hall is a university building at the University of Illinois in Urbana featuring orange brick walls and a blue roof positioned at the south end of Bardeen Quadrangle. The structure contains four lecture halls, two computer laboratories, and administrative offices serving the College of Engineering.
The building was constructed in 1894 and became the first university structure dedicated exclusively to a single college. Its orange and blue colors later became defining symbols of the institution.
The building serves as a gathering place for engineering students who collaborate on projects and participate in departmental activities throughout the day. It shapes campus life by hosting numerous student organizations and study groups within the College of Engineering.
The building enforces access restrictions in the evening and requires university identification cards to use the facilities. Check operating hours in advance if you need to access the laboratories or other restricted areas.
Graduate student George Bullard led the design of this structure, making it a notable example of early campus architecture. The building underwent major renovation work from 1998 to 2000 to restore and maintain its original architectural details.
