Wicomico Demonstration Forest

Wicomico Demonstration Forest is a protected woodland area in Maryland featuring six recreational trails that wind through pine and hardwood forests. The pathways include four loop routes and two connecting trails that guide visitors through different forest zones.

The Maryland Forest Service created this site to showcase timber management techniques and promote sustainable forest practices. The demonstration forest reflects efforts to teach responsible land stewardship through hands-on examples.

The forest functions as an outdoor classroom where students observe how different forest zones work and learn about the plants and animals living there.

The forest can be accessed through multiple parking areas, with one at the Wicomico County Forestry Office on Sixty Foot Road that accommodates horse trailers. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and bring water, as trails vary in difficulty and length.

The White Trail provides an extended journey through stands of pine at different growth stages, revealing how foresters manage and regenerate woodlands over time. This longer route offers walkers a comprehensive view of active land management in practice.
