Paxtang Park, Former amusement park in East Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, US.
Paxtang Park was an amusement park in East Harrisburg that stretched across about 35 acres along Spring Creek between Derry and Paxton streets. The grounds featured multiple mechanical rides, a swimming pool, a theater, a baseball field, and other entertainment facilities.
The East Harrisburg Street Electric Railway Company founded the park in 1893 as a destination along its rail line. The Kerstetter Amusement Company took over operations in 1922.
The park served as a family gathering spot where people spent weekends together, drawing visitors from across the region who valued its tobacco-free environment. This family-focused approach set it apart from other amusement parks of the era.
The site was easily accessible by public transportation and offered multiple entry points for visitors. With several separate attractions spread across the grounds, visitors could plan their time based on their interests.
The Coaster Flyer was one of the first mechanical rides, installed in 1905 and later joined by attractions like Jack Rabbit and Ginger Snap. These rides marked a turning point in the region's entertainment industry.
