The Dr. Charles Cotton House is a wood frame building with two and a half stories located on Cotton Court in Newport, Rhode Island. It features five bays across the front, a large central chimney, and a hipped roof with 18th-century additions in the Georgian style.
The house was built around 1720 and later expanded in the 18th century, reflecting its evolution over generations. The Cotton family owned it from the early period until 1974, and in 1977 the building was relocated to a new site for protection before being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
The house is named after Dr. Charles Cotton, who owned it in the early 1800s and whose family lived there for 157 years. The name ties the building to the local professionals who shaped Newport's community and daily life.
