Stonum

The red brick residence stands two and a half stories tall with a gabled roof, four-bay facade, and two interior chimneys at opposite corners.

Built in 1730, Stonum served as the country retreat of George Read, a Delaware Senator who signed both the Declaration of Independence and Constitution.

The interior preserves original architectural elements including corner fireplaces, wood dentiled cornices, paneled wainscoting, and detailed period mantels throughout the rooms.

Located at 900 Washington Avenue, the property sits on half an acre of land and maintains its original red-pine flooring and nine-foot front entrance.

The kitchen wing represents the oldest section of the house, while the main block features an unusual center hall plan with the stairway positioned against the right wall.
