Finns Point Range Light, Iron lighthouse in Pennsville Township, United States
Finns Point Range Light is an iron lighthouse in Pennsville Township that rises 115 feet on a masonry base with a skeletal cast iron frame. The Kellogg Bridge Company manufactured the structure, which was designed to work as part of a twin light system for river navigation.
The lighthouse began operations in 1877 as part of a navigation system for vessels moving from Delaware Bay into the river. Components arrived from Buffalo, New York and were assembled on site to complete the installation.
The structure shows how ships were guided through river channels using light signals, a common practice for maritime navigation in that era.
The deactivated lighthouse is located within a National Wildlife Refuge near the Delaware River. The site is open to visitors and provides good viewing access to the structure and the surrounding landscape.
Construction materials were hauled from Salem to the site using mules after components arrived by rail from Buffalo. This reveals the unusual logistics needed to build the structure in such a remote location.
