Pappajohn Sculpture Park, Sculpture garden in downtown Des Moines, US.
The Pappajohn Sculpture Park is a downtown Des Moines art garden featuring approximately 28 monumental sculptures by artists from around the world. The grounds combine open green spaces with distinctive wall structures and earth mounds designed to display the artworks.
The park was established in 2009 after John and Mary Pappajohn donated a significant collection of artworks to the public. This generous contribution created an important art destination in the heart of the city.
The park displays works by internationally recognized artists including Louise Bourgeois and Ai Weiwei. Visitors can encounter artistic expression from different cultures while walking through dedicated viewing spaces.
Admission is free and the grounds are accessible daily to visitors. Complimentary audio guides are available through the Des Moines Art Center website to help understand the story and background of each sculpture.
The grounds were designed so that natural mounds and wall structures separate individual sculpture groupings into distinct viewing zones. This thoughtful landscape design allows each artwork to have its own presence without being overshadowed by others.
