Minoru and Teruko Yamasaki House
Minoru and Teruko Yamasaki House, Residential landmark in Bloomfield Township, United States.
The L-shaped house features two stories with a flat roof, aluminum frame, brick cladding, and extensive curtain walls that maximize natural light penetration.
Minoru Yamasaki, architect of the World Trade Center, designed and built this residence in 1972 where he lived until his death in 1986.
The residence combines Japanese architectural principles of minimalism with modern American residential design elements through its open floor plan and large glass surfaces.
The building orientation toward northeast and southwest, along with extended roof overhangs, provides natural shade and temperature regulation throughout different seasons.
The National Register of Historic Places listed this property in 2013 for its connection to Yamasaki and its representation of Mid-Century Modern architecture.
