Chrysler Headquarters and Technology Center, Corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, United States
The Chrysler Headquarters and Technology Center in Auburn Hills is a large corporate facility that houses research laboratories, offices, and development centers across 15 floors. The complex includes specialized testing labs with wind tunnels, an internal evaluation track, and centers for noise, vibration, and climate condition testing.
Construction of this major automotive facility began in 1986 and reached partial completion in 1991 before achieving full occupancy in 1993. The phased development of the complex reflected the company's expansion strategy during that decade.
The building displays the design language of the 1990s with modern elements like an octagonal skylight in the cafeteria area, which reflects the contemporary corporate architecture of that era. This architectural style shapes the daily impression of employees and visitors walking through the spaces.
The facility was designed with internal traffic areas to allow testing drives directly within the building. The basement levels feature wide corridors that accommodate multiple vehicles passing simultaneously and support specialized test driving activities.
The basement corridors of the complex are unusually wide, allowing two vehicles to drive side by side, a rare feature for an office building. This enables vehicle testing and internal evaluation drives without needing to leave external test tracks.
