Washington State Capitol Conservatory was a greenhouse building located near Capitol Lake in Olympia that held a large collection of tropical and subtropical plants. The structure featured an extensive glass pavilion designed to maintain controlled growing conditions for its diverse plant collection.
The building was constructed in 1938 as part of an employment program during the Great Depression. It served the Capitol grounds for decades before foundation issues led to its permanent closure in 2008.
The greenhouse served as both a working facility for the Capitol grounds and a place where visitors could explore tropical and subtropical plants during their visits.
The site is no longer accessible to visitors as the building was completely demolished between 2020 and 2021. You can view the historic location from nearby Capitol Lake and the surrounding Capitol grounds.
