Insurance Building, Government building at Capitol Campus in Olympia, United States.
The Insurance Building is a four-story administrative structure on the Capitol Campus featuring colonnades along its north and south facades. It was constructed from local Wilkeson sandstone from Pierce County and now houses the Washington State Office of Financial Management.
The building was completed in 1921 as the second structure on the Capitol Campus and required major repairs following the 1949 Olympia earthquake. This restoration work allowed it to survive the subsequent decades without significant structural problems.
The building displays neoclassical design with unadorned columns running along its sides, giving the exterior a formal and balanced appearance. Visitors immediately notice the restrained, symmetrical composition without excessive ornamentation.
The structure is located in the government district at 302 Sid Snyder Ave SW and is accessible to visitors during regular business hours on weekdays. Access is easy from the paved Capitol Campus walkways.
The original campus plan called for an identical twin building on the opposite side of the Legislative Building, but it was never constructed. This missing structure remains a reminder of an unrealized part of the original vision.
