Sheriden Cave, Archaeological cave in Wyandot County, United States.

Sheriden Cave is a limestone cave in Wyandot County, Ohio, known for its archaeological excavations. Several chambers and passages were found to contain animal bones alongside stone and bone tools left by early people.

The cave was discovered in 1989, and the materials found inside date back roughly 11,000 to 12,000 years. Clovis hunters and other Paleo-Indian groups passed through and used this spot during a period when the landscape of Ohio looked very different.

A historical marker near the entrance explains what the finds reveal about early life in this part of Ohio. The tools and bones together show that hunters used this spot not just for shelter, but as a place to process game.

The site lies near Ohio Route 568 and can be approached on foot, though the entrance is fenced off and no tours are offered inside. A marker on site gives context about the finds, so reading it before looking around is a good idea.

Among the bones found here were those of the giant short-faced bear, the stag moose, and the flat-headed peccary, all animals that no longer exist anywhere on Earth. Finding human tools right alongside these remains in the same sediment layer is something that very few sites in North America can offer.
