Powelton Club

Powelton Club is a private golf club sprawled across 230 acres between US Route 9W and Interstate 84, with an 18-hole golf course and five red clay tennis courts. The grounds also feature two swimming pools and various spaces for private events.

The club was founded in 1882 as an archery club and later evolved into a golf facility, becoming one of the oldest golf courses in New York State. This long history was recognized through its listing on the National Register of Historic Places.

The clubhouse functions as a social center where members gather year-round for events, shared meals, and recreational activities. The spaces reflect the long history of the place and serve as the heart of community life here.

The club is located about 50 miles north of New York City and is easily reached by car. Visitors should check ahead about guest access policies and event availability, as this is a private membership facility.

The golf course was designed in 1921 by Devereux Emmet and is considered a landmark in golf design because of its innovative use of bunkers and specific grass varieties. The layout influenced how many other courses were developed during that era.
