Sweat-Comings Company House

The Sweat-Comings Company House is a two-story wood-frame structure with a hip roof and three-window facade, containing two separate living units. The ground floor retains original hardwood floors and plaster walls, with a French door providing access between the divided spaces.

The building was constructed in 1909 following a major fire that destroyed sections of downtown Richford. It was originally designed to house the factory night watchman and single workers who needed quick access to their jobs.

This boarding house shows how companies in the early 1900s took responsibility for housing their workers near factories. The two living units reflect the practice of providing on-site accommodations to keep workers close to their jobs.

The house is located in a residential neighborhood and is viewable from the street, allowing you to see the architecture and exterior details clearly. Since this is a private residence, visitors should plan for exterior viewing only.

In 1924, the entire building was relocated across the street to a new location, while its attached garage was moved elsewhere in Richford. This unusual relocation reveals the construction logistics and practical problem-solving of that era.
