Stuntz Bay Boathouse Historic District, Historic boathouse district in Breitung Township, United States.
Stuntz Bay Boathouse Historic District is a waterfront settlement with 143 boathouses arranged in a continuous row along Lake Vermilion's shoreline in Minnesota. The area spans approximately 138 acres at the northern end of Stuntz Bay Road and includes a boat ramp and fishing dock.
These boathouses were built during the first half of the 20th century when workers from the Soudan Iron Mine constructed them using larch logs and materials from the mining operation. The site was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The boathouses reflect the mining heritage of the region and show how workers spent their free time on the water. These buildings remain a mark of the close connection between working-class life and nature around the lake.
The location sits at the northern end of Stuntz Bay Road and is easily accessible by car, with parking available near the fishing dock and boat ramp. The terrain is flat and allows open access to the water for fishing and boating.
A large rock outcrop jutting into the water served as a favored fishing spot for locals and remains a distinctive feature of the site. Some of the oldest structures date to the 1940s and show how anglers and boaters spent their days on the lake.
