Meux Home

The Meux Home is a two-story residence from the 1880s featuring a distinctive conical turret on one corner. The structure displays a wraparound porch on three sides with wooden stair railings and other Victorian architectural details throughout.

A doctor named Thomas Richard Meux built this house in 1889, having previously worked as a military surgeon during a major American conflict. The timing of the construction reflected Fresno's growth as a city during that era.

The rooms display furnishings and personal items from the late 1800s that show how successful families lived in early Fresno. You can see how daily life unfolded through the furniture, clothing, and household objects arranged throughout the residence.

You can visit through guided tours led by people in historical costumes who show you through the rooms. The location is walkable from downtown Fresno, and it helps to check ahead for tour availability.

The house retains its original gas lamps from the 1890s, which are still visible and show how lighting worked during that time. Six fireplaces with elaborate tile patterns are scattered throughout, showing the craftsmanship of Victorian-era construction.
