Bismarck Tower, Monument and viewpoint tower in Stadtpark, Bochum, Germany.
Bismarck Tower is a sandstone structure located in Bochum's city park, rising approximately 33 meters high with an observation platform at the top. About 149 steps lead upward, allowing visitors to see across the city and park.
The tower was built in 1910 using funds from public donations and has served Bochum as a historical landmark ever since. It survived World War II with only minor damage and remained a notable local sight.
This tower was built as part of a nationwide movement to remember Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and belongs to a network of similar monuments across the country. Visitors today can understand its role as a local landmark by exploring the site and surroundings.
The tower is accessible during the warmer months and visitors can reach the observation platform by climbing the stairs. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and plan the climb during good weather, as the view from above is particularly rewarding.
The original benzol-powered fire bowl that once topped the tower now stands beside the building, telling of earlier times. This relocation was made for safety reasons but makes the old function of the monument visible to visitors.
