Eisenbahnbrücke über die Weser, Railway bridge in Fürstenberg, Germany
The steel railway bridge spans 250 meters across the Weser River, featuring five masonry vaults made of Solling sandstone and a steel truss construction.
Built between 1874 and 1876 by the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company, the bridge connected the Upper Ruhr Valley railway line with the city of Holzminden.
The bridge received its nickname Kennedy Bridge in honor of Captain James Latimer Kennedy, who supervised its reconstruction after World War II until his death in 1946.
Following the closure of passenger services in 1984 and complete decommissioning in 1997, the bridge structure remains accessible for viewing from multiple angles along the Weser River.
The bridge survived a bombing attack in 1944 when German engineers managed to restore railway operations within four days using temporary bridge structures.
