Glasmuseum Boffzen houses glass objects ranging from everyday items to contemporary art within a 1905 factory owner's villa. The collection spans multiple periods and styles, displayed across the rooms of this historical residence.
The museum opened in 1991 in the 1905 Becker villa, run by the Boffzen municipality. From 2015 to 2017 the Freundeskreis Glasmuseum Boffzen e. V. operated it, and since 2018 a volunteer team led by deputy mayor Manfred Bues has managed it. It closed at the end of 2019.
The permanent exhibition includes carafes, wine glasses, and beer glasses from the 1950s and 1960s, representing regional craftsmanship and production methods.
The museum closed at the end of 2019 in the Becker-Villa, the 1905 factory owner's villa. Its rooms were renovated by the municipality in 2018, and operation throughout the year was planned. The former Georgshütte works site south of the villa has been an industrial wasteland since closure in 1989.
The villa was built in 1905 for the Becker glassmaking family, whose ancestors had worked in glass production since the early 15th century. Ludwig Wilhelm Becker founded the Georgshütte glassworks in 1872 just south of the house; the works closed in 1989 and the site has been an industrial wasteland since.
