Garderhøj Fort, Military museum and fort in Gentofte Municipality, Denmark.
Garderhøj Fort is a military fortification in Gentofte with underground passages, armored gun turrets, and barracks forming several defensive structures. The site shows the engineering of cannon positions and underground rooms that were built for national defense.
The fort was built in 1892 as part of a defense system around Copenhagen, funded by donations when politicians could not agree on budget spending. It was one of several forts designed to protect the capital.
The museum displays items connected to Danish military heritage, including weapons, uniforms, and personal gear of soldiers who served here. Visitors can see how soldiers lived and worked within these fortifications every day.
The fort is open to visitors on weekends and offers guided tours through the restored installations along with interactive displays. It is easy to reach on foot or by public transport from Gentofte.
Visitors can fire small cannons and send morse code messages, gaining hands-on experience of how soldiers trained here. The gymnasium still displays equipment that the garrison once used for physical training.
