Skaføgård

Skaføgård is a red brick manor house comprising three wings built on an islet and surrounded by wide water-filled moats. The structure displays Renaissance architecture featuring round-arched windows with decorative patterns.

Jørgen Ottesen Rosenkrantz initiated construction of the manor between 1579 and 1582 as an estate for his two sons Otto and Holger Rosenkrantz. The property remained with the family through generations before passing to other wealthy landowners.

The interior features a notable oak cabinet in Dutch Renaissance style by Mikkel van Gronningen that spans across the wall surface. This piece of furniture reflects the estate owner's connection to European craftsmanship and appreciation for fine decorative arts.

The estate functions as an active farming and forestry operation located roughly 28 kilometers northeast of Aarhus. Visitors should expect a rural setting and check local conditions before planning their visit.

The property was purchased in 1852 by the Estrup family and has remained in the ownership of their descendants, including descendants of former Danish Prime Minister Jacob Brønnum Scavenius Estrup. This continuity of ownership spanning more than 150 years is uncommon for a Danish estate.
