Planetari de Castelló, Planetarium in Castelló de la Plana, Spain
The Planetari de Castelló is a scientific facility on the Mediterranean coast, positioned right at the start of the Maritime Promenade. The building has three floors with multiple exhibition halls and a large dome containing both Carl Zeiss optomechanical and RSA Cosmos digital projectors in its main chamber.
The facility opened its doors on May 8, 1991, becoming the first planetarium built in the Valencian Community. This marked an important moment for scientific education in the region.
The entrance displays the sculpture 'La femella del mar' by local artist Juan Ripollés, with outdoor installations including a wind rose and sundial visible to visitors. These artworks give the place a welcoming character that greets people as they arrive.
The three floors allow visitors to explore the exhibitions at their own pace, with the dome chamber offering the main experience. Planning your visit helps you see all areas without feeling rushed.
A Foucault pendulum hangs in the lobby, demonstrating Earth's rotation through its continuous swinging motion. This physical phenomenon fascinates visitors and reveals a fundamental principle of our planet.
