Museum of Berkshire Aviation, Aviation museum in Woodley, England
The Museum of Berkshire Aviation is an independent aviation museum in Woodley, England, built on the grounds of a former aircraft factory, displaying planes, engines, and technical equipment. The collection also includes blueprints, documents, and tools that illustrate the history of aircraft manufacturing in the region.
The collection preserves the legacy of the Miles Aircraft company, which built planes in Woodley from 1932 to 1947 and played a notable role in British aviation during that period. After production ended, the site was eventually used to house the museum that keeps that memory alive.
The museum displays uniforms, tools, and original documents that show how the area around Woodley became a center of British aircraft manufacturing. Walking through the rooms gives a clear sense of what daily life looked like inside an aircraft factory.
The museum opens from April to October, mostly on weekends, with longer opening days during summer. Since part of the display is outdoors, sturdy footwear is a good idea.
Among the planes on display is the Miles Martinet, a rare target tug aircraft built in Woodley, shown alongside its original technical papers and maintenance records. This type was designed specifically for towing aerial targets during military training, a role that is largely forgotten today.
