Betts Park, Urban park in Anerley, London Borough of Bromley, England
Betts Park is an urban park in Anerley with multiple sports and recreation facilities spread across about 13 acres. The space includes football pitches, an outdoor gym, basketball courts, and a skateboard area for different activities.
The land was originally part of Penge Common, granted by King Eadwig in 957 to a local thane as a reward. Over centuries it changed from open countryside into the park that exists today.
The Heart of Anerley obelisk, installed in 2024, marks the spot within the grounds as a symbol of what residents value about their neighborhood. It reflects how the local community thinks about itself and its place in the city.
The park can be accessed from several directions: Anerley Road, Weighton Road, Seymour Villas, Croydon Road, and Betts Way. You can find an entrance that suits your arrival point from any side.
The park preserves the last surviving section of the Croydon Canal, built in 1806 to transport goods and materials. This old waterway marks the northwestern boundary and offers a glimpse into how trade once moved through the area.
