Baronscourt, Georgian country house in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland
Baronscourt is a Georgian country house in southwestern County Tyrone with neo-classical features and elegant proportions. The estate includes ornamental gardens, an 18-hole golf course, and extends across extensive woodlands in the rural countryside.
The lands originally belonged to the Ó Néill clan before Sir George Hamilton received them in 1610 during the Ulster Plantation. The building was shaped by significant later reconstructions that created its present form.
The house serves as the main home of the Dukes of Abercorn and has shaped life in the region for generations. You can see the family's connection to the community through their nearby burial ground at Baronscourt Parish Church.
The estate offers outdoor activities such as fishing and shooting in its natural surroundings. Visitors should know that this is a working private estate, so it's best to check access conditions and timing before planning your visit.
The house was substantially redesigned by architect John Soane in 1791, giving it its distinctive neo-classical appearance. Richard and William Morrison then carried out extensive renovations between 1835 and 1843 that further shaped its character.
