Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment Cenotaph
Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment Cenotaph, War memorial in Brenchley Gardens, Maidstone, United Kingdom.
The Portland limestone cenotaph stands at two-thirds scale of the Whitehall monument, featuring a chest tomb with a moulded laurel wreath.
Designed by Edwin Lutyens and unveiled on July 30, 1921, the memorial commemorates 6,866 soldiers of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment who died in World War I.
The memorial reflects British military traditions through its design elements, incorporating classical architectural features and serving as a focal point for remembrance ceremonies.
Visitors can access the Grade II listed monument within Brenchley Gardens, where regular maintenance ensures the preservation of inscriptions and structural elements.
The cenotaph is one of seven Lutyens-designed cenotaphs in England and one of two specifically dedicated to a single regiment.
