Rome Urbe Airport, Airport in northern Rome, Italy
Rome-Urbe Airport is a small civil aerodrome in the northern part of Rome, Italy. It has a single asphalt runway and a compact terminal with only a handful of facilities.
The airport opened in 1928, making it one of the earliest civil airfields in the Rome area. Over the following decades it shifted from an early aviation site to a base for general aviation and private flights.
The airport sits in the northern part of Rome and today serves mainly private pilots, sport flyers, and small charter operations. Landing or departing here feels noticeably different from the pace of Rome's larger airports, with fewer people and a more direct process.
The nearest train station is only a short walk away and gives a fast connection to central Rome. Those arriving by car will find parking nearby, and the roads leading to the airport are generally quiet.
Despite being one of the smallest airports in Italy, Rome-Urbe is considered the busiest general aviation airfield in the country. Pilots on approach in clear weather have a direct view over the Rome skyline, including St. Peter's Basilica.
