Mounts Baths, Art Deco public bath in Northampton, England.
Mounts Baths is a public swimming facility in Northampton built in an Art Deco style. The structure features large windows of reinforced concrete supported by eight parabolic arches that frame the main pool hall. Inside are a large swimming pool, a smaller teaching pool added in the 1970s, and functioning Turkish baths with multiple temperature zones.
The building was constructed between 1935 and 1936 by architects J.C. Prestwich & Sons and received Grade II listed status. It stands on the former site of Northampton's old prison, marking a shift in the town's development during that era.
The interior design shows light-colored ceramic tiles around the pool area and blue tiles lining the pool walls, creating a cathedral-like feeling. Visitors notice this color scheme immediately upon entering the main pool hall.
The site is accessible on foot and has clear signage to the entrance and different bathing areas. The facility offers changing rooms and shower areas with basic amenities for a pleasant visit.
The structure preserves rare Art Deco features found in only a few other English swimming pools. The original geometric patterns and ornamental details from its construction period remain visible and contribute to the architectural value of the place.
