Aviation House, Grade II listed building in Kingsway, London, England.
Aviation House is a Grade II listed building on Kingsway in the London Borough of Camden, originally constructed as a place of worship. It has a Portland stone facade in the Edwardian Baroque style and now serves as a coworking office space.
The building went up between 1909 and 1911 as the Church of the Holy Trinity, replacing the Little Queen Street Chapel that was torn down during construction of the Piccadilly line. The arrival of the underground reshaped much of the street layout in the Kingsway area at the time.
The Portland stone facade draws from the Roman church of Santa Maria della Pace, giving the building a style unusual for a London street. Pedestrians walking along Kingsway can take in the ornate Edwardian Baroque details from the pavement without entering.
The building sits on Kingsway in Camden and is easily viewed from the pavement, so no entry is needed to see the facade. The street is well connected by public transport, making it a convenient stop during a walk through the area.
The original plans included a tower that was never built because funding ran out before the project could be completed. Looking closely at the facade, you can still spot the structural points where that tower was meant to rise.
