Taynitsky Garden

Taynitsky Garden is a green space within the Moscow Kremlin walls featuring pathways, open lawns, and mature trees that offer visitors a quiet place inside the historic fortress. The layout combines natural areas with paved walks and open sections designed for strolling.

This garden developed over centuries as part of the Kremlin fortress, gradually becoming more organized and landscaped. Archaeological work in the 21st century uncovered remains of medieval buildings and objects from everyday life in old Moscow.

The garden contains an oak tree named Cosmos, planted by cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin on April 14, 1961, following his first human spaceflight mission.

Access is through the Kremlin fortress and follows its opening hours. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes since the paths are made of stone and paving and connect different elevation levels.

An old oak tree in the garden was planted by a Soviet cosmonaut and carries a symbolic name honoring space exploration. This tree stands as a living memorial to a major 20th-century achievement.
