Aynalı Çarşı, Covered marketplace in central Çanakkale, Turkey.
Aynalı Çarşı is a covered marketplace in downtown Çanakkale featuring a long corridor lined with vaulted arches on both sides. Multiple shops sit beneath a central skylight system that allows daylight to reach the interior passage.
The bazaar was built in 1890 during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamid II by Jewish merchant Ilya Halyo. Inscriptions at the entrance in Ottoman and Hebrew script mark this period of construction.
This marketplace has long served as a center for Jewish merchants and continues to shape the character of Çanakkale's old town. The proximity to two synagogues reflects how important this area was to the city's Jewish community.
The bazaar is centrally located on Çarşı Street in downtown Çanakkale and is easily reached on foot. The main entrance sits right in the busy commercial area, making it simple to locate.
The name comes from mirrors that were installed at the entrance and along the walls to distribute natural light inside. These clever fixtures were needed to brighten the darker areas beneath the covered structure.
