Akçakoca Clock Tower
Akçakoca Clock Tower is a timepiece mounted on the minaret of a former mosque in the town of Akçakoca in Düzce Province. The structure has a rectangular plan with four stacked levels, with the upper level displaying a large clock face set in ornamental frames.
The tower was built in 1954 by adding a clock to the existing minaret of the old Akçakoca Central Mosque. Since then it has watched over the community for decades and underwent restoration in the 1970s and again in 2006.
The tower took its name from its function as a timekeeper for the community. In daily use by locals and visitors, it serves as a gathering point where people orient themselves and check the time together.
The tower sits in the town center, easily reached along the main streets. Access is straightforward and the area is well served by small shops and cafes where you can pause before or after your visit.
The clock face was designed to be clearly visible from a distance, helping the community stay on schedule in an era when personal watches were less common. This practical feature made it a central reference point for daily life in town.
