Waldwipfelweg, Forest canopy walkway in Sankt Englmar, Germany.
Waldwipfelweg is an elevated wooden walkway that rises 30 meters above ground through the Bavarian Forest. The path measures 2.5 meters wide, accommodates all visitors without barriers, and offers close views of tree crowns and birds at canopy level.
The walkway was created to show visitors the forest from a new perspective and to develop tourism in the region. Additional attractions were later added to expand what the site offered to guests.
The path shows how people in this region connect with forests through education and observation. Learning stations along the route reveal the relationship between local communities and their woodland surroundings.
The walkway is barrier-free and easy to walk, with regular rest areas for breaks along the way. Wear sturdy shoes and be cautious in wet conditions, as the wooden surface can become slippery.
A converted aircraft at the site offers virtual flights over the surrounding landscape. This unexpected addition lets visitors experience the forest from above through flight simulation technology.
