Hawkstone Hall, Georgian manor house in Hodnet, England.
Hawkstone Hall is a Georgian manor house built of red brick, featuring classical columns and balanced wings extending north and south. Today it operates as a hotel and event venue with restored interiors that can accommodate guests and celebrations.
Construction started between 1701 and 1725 under Richard Hill's direction. The Hill family then held the estate for approximately three centuries before its role changed.
The house functioned as a Roman Catholic seminary from 1926 to 1973, where priests were trained and religious ceremonies took place daily. This period left a lasting mark on how people moved through and used the rooms inside.
The site sits on extensive grounds that are easy to walk through, with rooms and gardens generally open to explore. Keep in mind that access may be limited on days when private events are being held.
Two brothers, Rowland and Robert Hill, were born within these walls and later fought together at the Battle of Waterloo. Their connection to the house links its architectural legacy with a chapter of military history.
