Blue Anchor Bay

Blue Anchor Bay, Coastal bay in Somerset, United Kingdom

Blue Anchor Bay is a coastal bay in Somerset featuring a mixed beach of sand and shingle with reddish-colored sand visible at low tide. A concrete promenade runs along the shoreline, providing access to views and pathways across the foreshore.

The West Somerset Railway established a station here during the 19th century, linking coastal communities between Minehead and Watchet. This rail connection shaped the area's development as a destination.

Collectors visit the beach to search for fossils embedded in alabaster rocks along the foreshore, drawn by the chance to find remains of ancient sea creatures.

The beach provides free parking and public toilets within easy reach of the shore. The concrete promenade offers accessible walking routes with minimal elevation changes.

The alabaster rocks here contain numerous well-preserved fossils of ancient fish and ammonites from the Jurassic period. This geological feature makes the beach a treasure for fossil hunters exploring the layered rocks.
