Portobello Library

Portobello Library is a public library in the Portobello district housed in a two-story modernist building at 14 Rosefield Avenue. The structure features large windows, clearly organized sections for different materials, and separate reading areas.

The library relocated to its present location in 1963 after previously operating from the Old Town Hall. It arrived with an initial collection of around 26,000 books.

The library hosts regular book clubs, writing groups, and children's activities that bring neighbors together. These gatherings help shape the social life of the district.

The building has an open layout that makes it easy to find different sections and navigate between them. Visitors can take advantage of free computer access, photocopying, and wireless internet throughout the day.

Since 2017, the Edinburgh Tool Library operates within the building, allowing members to borrow tools and equipment. This unusual pairing turns the space into a place for both reading and practical projects.
