Blacksyke Tower

Blacksyke Tower is an engine house and scheduled monument near Caprington featuring distinctive crow-stepped gables and corbelled parapets. The stone structure displays early industrial design combined with architectural details that echo period tower house styles.

Built in the late 1700s, it housed a Newcomen atmospheric pumping engine that removed water from coal mines at depths to enable extraction. This machine proved crucial for allowing deep mining to expand in the area and drive economic growth.

The tower displays how industrial engineering and local architecture merged during the period when coal mining shaped daily life across the region. People visiting the adjacent golf course can observe how this structure still marks the landscape as a reminder of that era.

The monument is accessible through the grounds of Caprington Golf Club, where the structure remains visible among the golf courses. The setting allows for walking around the site to observe the architecture and its position within the landscape.
