County Hall, Mold, Government building in Mold, Wales
County Hall in Mold is a government building with brutalist architecture located on Raikes Lane. The structure features bold geometric forms combined with functional spaces, including a council chamber that continues to serve official meetings today.
The building opened in May 1968 when Princess Margaret attended the inauguration ceremony. An extension was added and inaugurated by Princess Anne in 1972.
The structure represents the evolution of Welsh local government, transitioning from Flintshire County Council through Clwyd County Council to current Flintshire administration.
Visitors should note that sections were relocated to another building starting in 2018, while the front area with the council chamber remains in active use. The rear sections were demolished in 2020, so the original layout has changed significantly.
The rear wings underwent demolition in 2020 due to maintenance costs, marking a significant change in the building's original structure and layout.
