Brighton and Hove National Spiritualist Church, Spiritualist church in Carlton Hill, Brighton, England
The Brighton and Hove National Spiritualist Church is a house of worship for the Spiritualist movement located on Edward Street. The distinctive concrete building features a curved figure-of-eight shape with vertical concrete blocks and a largely windowless exterior that creates a striking modern appearance.
The congregation was founded in 1902 and relocated several times over the decades before settling in its current Brutalist building in 1965. Architects Overton & Partners designed the distinctive structure, which later received heritage protection status in 2015.
The congregation hosts regular demonstrations where mediums connect with visitors and offer spiritual guidance as part of everyday practice. These sessions draw people seeking spiritual exploration and personal connection.
The building sits in an easily accessible part of town with clear signage and is convenient to reach on foot. Visitors should check specific opening times in advance since this is an active place of worship with a regular schedule.
The building's unusual figure-of-eight design was an intentional architectural choice rarely seen in other religious structures. This shape allows for a distinctive interior layout that supports the congregation's spiritual practices.
