Droitwich Water Tower, Water tower on Yew Tree Hill, Droitwich, England
The Droitwich Water Tower is a water storage structure on Yew Tree Hill that rises from a base of 12 slender square columns supporting a central service shaft. It holds a large water tank and carries telecommunications equipment for mobile phone services.
This structure was built in 1962 by the East Worcestershire Waterworks Company to improve local water pressure and supply. It represented an important investment in regional infrastructure during the post-war period.
The tower has become a familiar landmark that residents pass daily and use as a reference point in conversation. Walking around the structure connects people to the broader landscape and gives them a sense of how water systems serve their everyday lives.
The tower sits at a high point and offers clear views of the surrounding countryside when you walk around it. The area is well-suited for walking and exploring, with accessible paths through the grounds nearby.
The area around the tower was later developed into parkland with natural meadows and recreational spaces for local residents. This integration of infrastructure and green space shows how engineering projects can support community needs beyond their primary function.
