St Lawrence's Church, Longridge
St Lawrence's Church, Longridge, Anglican parish church in Longridge, England
St Lawrence's Church is a stone building located on Chapel Hill that features a tower added in 1841 and a north porch built in 1926. The interior includes ten pairs of stained glass windows set in the north and south galleries, creating distinct sections within the space.
The building began as a chapel of ease for St Wilfrid's Church in the early 16th century and underwent major renovations in 1716. It gained parish church status in 1868, becoming independent from the larger church.
The building holds war memorials dedicated to local casualties from both world wars, serving as an important place of remembrance for the community. These monuments reflect the deep connection between the church and the town's past.
The church sits on a hillside location with good views of the surroundings and provides ample space inside for visitors to move around. Access between the main floor and the gallery sections may require using steps, so visitors should be aware of the layout when planning their visit.
The interior contains ten pairs of stained glass windows designed by artist Brian Clarke in 1975, displayed in the gallery sections. These modern windows create an interesting contrast with the much older structure and stone walls surrounding them.
