Sale Town Hall, Town hall in Sale, Greater Manchester, England
Sale Town Hall is a neoclassical structure on School Road with a symmetrical frontage of nine bays and carved text above the central balcony. It now houses the Waterside Arts Centre, which opened in 2004 after comprehensive renovations transformed the former civic theatre space into a cultural venue.
Built in 1914 and opened in 1915, the building served as headquarters for Sale Borough Council. During the 1940 Manchester Blitz, German incendiary bombs caused damage that led to major repairs and the addition of a new clock tower with a cupola in 1952.
The council chamber displays Art Deco wood paneling and contains a stained glass window with the coat of arms of Sir William Cunliffe Brooks. This decoration shows how the town honored its local leaders and history within the building's interior spaces.
The building is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from Sale town center. Visitors should check which areas are open to the public before visiting, as parts of the building remain in administrative use.
The clock tower with cupola added in 1952 after wartime damage remains one of Sale's most recognizable landmarks. This distinctive addition stands as a visible reminder of the building's recovery from World War II destruction.
