Xplore!, Science centre in Wrexham, Wales
Xplore! is a science centre and tourist attraction in the heart of Wrexham, in north Wales, housed on Henblas Street. It has more than 80 hands-on exhibits, a planetarium, and regular live science shows that are open to all ages.
The Henblas Street building was originally a department store called TJ Hughes before being converted into a science centre. It is now run by North Wales Science Ltd, a local charitable organisation dedicated to science education in the area.
Xplore! sits in a former department store on Henblas Street, and the building's past life as TJ Hughes is still visible in its structure today. The exhibits are designed to be touched and tried, giving the centre a hands-on feel that is quite different from a traditional museum.
The centre is in the middle of Wrexham town and is easy to reach on foot from most public transport stops, with good access for visitors with mobility needs. It is worth checking opening times before you go, as hours can vary on weekdays.
Xplore! recently received UK Government funding to develop three permanent new exhibits, and is at the same time exploring whether the first floor could be opened to visitors for more displays. This means the layout may look a little different each time you visit.
